about

ArtPark is a miniature alley park located in Waukegan, Illinois created by local artist Jim Harrington in 1997. Harrington created the park to put an end to the eyesore/sketchiness that was the alley and bring more life and art to downtown Waukegan. The ArtPark featured many of Jim Harrington's works ranging from paintings to sculptures.

Sadly, Harrington passed in 2000 and the ArtPark was left without its caretaker. In the span of 16 years, many had put their best efforts to keep the park alive.

In 2016 we decided to step in and take our turn with the park. The park has a lot of history and strongly pops out on Genesee Street which is definitely the reason it caught our attention.

At ArtPark, you can find original Harrington sculptures, beautiful plants, and a wide range of art and art projects. You could find ArtPark volunteers/artists out and about in the sunniest of days and the cloudiest of days.

Unfortunately, as of November 2020, the buildings adjacent to the park were slated for demolition. Thankfully, we were able to rescue the sculptures, plants, and art pieces that once live in the park. The hope is to return to the original location at 14 South Genesee, and also expand by building ArtPark's throughout Lake County.

Even though our physical location is closed, we are still asking for donations while we create plans for next years projects throughout downtown, and as we begin to expand our virtual platforms.

"We redid the whole alley, too. We took something that was really dangerous-looking and turned it into somewhere where you want to be"
